Botleys Mansion Wedding Photographer

There's a moment when you turn off the road and start driving down the long approach to Botleys Mansion — past the manicured lawns, past the fountain — and the house just appears in front of you. It's one of those venues that makes you catch your breath a little. Grand without being intimidating, elegant without being cold. Every time I photograph a wedding here, I'm reminded why it's one of my favourite venues to work at.

Botleys Mansion is a beautiful Palladian mansion set in 56 acres of rolling parkland near Chertsey in Surrey, just over the Hampshire border and about 30 minutes from London. It's an exclusive use venue, which means the entire house and grounds are yours for the day — no other events, no strangers wandering through your photos, just you and your guests in this stunning setting. The house itself is Grade II listed with gorgeous period features, but it's been beautifully restored with a modern feel running through it. There's a real mix of spaces to work with — the intimate Green Room with its soft pastel tones and golden chandeliers, the show-stopping glass-roofed Atrium that floods with natural light, the sweeping stone staircase and front steps that are perfect for portraits, and the gardens and parkland beyond that give you endless options for couple shots without disappearing from your guests for ages.

As a Botleys Mansion wedding photographer, one of the things I love most about this venue is the light. The Atrium in particular is incredible — that glass roof means you get beautiful, even light throughout the day, which is a photographer's dream. And the way the house flows from one space to the next means the day moves naturally without feeling rushed or disjointed. Guests can drift from the ceremony through to drinks by the fountain, into dinner in the Atrium, and onto dancing without everything feeling miles apart.

Although this wasn’t a wedding day but a beautifully curated styled shoot, it perfectly showcased what makes Botleys Mansion such a special setting from a photographer’s perspective. The light inside the Atrium was soft and diffused thanks to the glass ceiling, creating a natural glow that flatters everything from florals to fashion. It’s the kind of space where you don’t need to fight the light — you simply work with it.

Out in the Surrey gardens, the late afternoon sun skimmed across the lawns and wrapped around the columns of the mansion in the most beautiful way. Golden hour here feels cinematic. The creamy stone of the building reflects warmth, while the open grounds give you space for those wide, editorial-style compositions as well as intimate, close-up moments.

One of the standout features for photography is the grand staircase. It’s dramatic without being dark, which means you can create elegant, high-end imagery without losing detail. Throughout the shoot, it was easy to see how seamlessly a full wedding day could flow here — from bright morning preparations through to candlelit celebrations in the evening — all within the grounds of Botleys Mansion in Surrey.
