Winchester Wedding Photographer

There’s something undeniably special about a small wedding at Winchester Register Office, and as a Winchester wedding photographer, it’s one of my favourite venues to photograph intimate ceremonies. Nestled in the heart of one of Hampshire’s most beautiful historic cities, it offers a relaxed and elegant setting that feels perfect for couples wanting a meaningful celebration surrounded by their closest family and friends. The ceremony rooms are beautiful without feeling overwhelming, and the location itself couldn’t be better — just moments from Winchester’s charming streets, historic architecture, and endless portrait opportunities.

Simon and Rachel chose the lovely Basing Room for their ceremony, a space that works beautifully for smaller weddings. As a Winchester wedding photographer, I always love how personal weddings in this room feel. With a smaller guest list, every moment felt heartfelt and emotional, and there was such a strong sense of love and support surrounding them throughout the day. These quieter, intimate weddings often carry the biggest emotions, and Simon and Rachel’s day was no exception.

Just a week before the wedding, Rachel sadly lost her dad. Understandably, the day carried a mixture of emotions for everyone there, but what stood out most was the incredible amount of love woven into every part of the celebration. It became a day not only about marriage, but also about family, remembrance, and being surrounded by the people who matter most. One of the most moving moments of the day was seeing Rachel arrive with her mum, who walked her down the aisle. It was such a powerful and emotional moment — one filled with strength, pride, and love. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Despite the sadness lingering in the background, there was also so much warmth and joy shared between everyone present.

Rachel looked absolutely stunning in an elegant off-the-shoulder wedding dress that suited the style of the day perfectly. She carried the most incredible colourful cascading bouquet, which brought such vibrancy and life to the softer tones of the ceremony room and the historic surroundings of Winchester. Simon looked equally smart, and together they were effortlessly wonderful to photograph.

After the ceremony, we stepped outside into the sunshine for portraits around the Great Hall and the surrounding streets of Winchester. This is one of the reasons I love being a Winchester wedding photographer — within just a few minutes’ walk you have beautiful old buildings, cobbled streets, hidden corners, and timeless backdrops that give wedding photographs so much character. Winchester is such a fantastic location for couples planning a smaller wedding with plenty of opportunities for relaxed, natural portraits. After the walk around Winchester, everyone headed to The Ivy in a private dining room for a lovely, intimate meal together.

Simon and Rachel were completely natural together, making my job incredibly easy. Whether they were laughing together while wandering through the city streets or sharing quieter moments away from their guests, every photograph reflected just how connected they are. As a Winchester wedding photographer, these are exactly the moments I love to capture most — genuine emotion, real connection, and couples simply enjoying being together.

Some weddings stay with you long after the day is over, and Simon and Rachel’s wedding was definitely one of those. They are truly gorgeous people, both inside and out, and despite the difficult circumstances surrounding the week before their wedding, the day was filled with love, resilience, and genuine happiness. It was an absolute privilege to capture such an emotional and meaningful celebration for them.
