THE ITALIAN VILLA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER - COMPTON ACRES
There's no other wedding venue in the UK quite like The Italian Villa. The moment you step through the gates of Compton Acres and into those incredible gardens, you feel like you've been transported somewhere in the Mediterranean — the manicured terraces, the warm stone, the elegant planting. It's a truly special place and one I always love photographing at.
The Italian Villa is a multi award-winning wedding venue set within the stunning Grade II listed gardens of Compton Acres in Poole, Dorset — just a stone's throw from the golden beaches at Sandbanks. The villa itself is spread across three floors of beautiful, elegant suites, and when you book it the entire venue is exclusively yours for the day. It seats up to 180 for a wedding breakfast and 250 for ceremonies, so it works brilliantly for both intimate weddings and bigger celebrations.
But it's the gardens that really set this venue apart. You don't just get the Italian Garden — although that alone would be enough, with its perfectly manicured terraces, stone balustrades, water features, and the balcony overlooking it all. You also have access to 10 acres of themed gardens including a Japanese Garden, a Heather Garden, and a beautiful Wooded Valley with waterfalls and lush foliage. Every garden has a completely different character and atmosphere, which means the photo opportunities here are genuinely endless.
As an Italian Villa wedding photographer, I love how the gardens change with the seasons. The planting is constantly evolving, so every wedding I photograph here looks completely different — different colours, different textures, different light. The Italian Garden in late afternoon light is particularly stunning for couple portraits, and the Wooded Valley creates this beautiful, dappled, almost magical quality in photos that's really hard to replicate anywhere else.
Becky and Craig’s summer wedding at the The Italian Villa was the perfect blend of elegance, sunshine, and pure joy from start to finish. Set among the beautiful gardens of Compton Acres, the day began with an outdoor ceremony at the foot of the villa’s iconic stone steps. With the warm summer air and the soft greenery of the gardens surrounding them, Becky and Craig exchanged their vows in front of family and friends in a setting that felt both romantic and relaxed. Throughout the ceremony, it was impossible not to notice just how happy they were — the two of them smiling constantly, exchanging glances and little laughs that made the whole moment feel incredibly genuine.
After the ceremony, guests gathered in the villa’s gardens for drinks and canapés, soaking up the sunshine while congratulations and hugs flowed freely. Becky and Craig moved easily among their guests, their infectious energy setting the tone for the entire afternoon. Everywhere they went there was laughter, big smiles, and that unmistakable sense that they were completely present and enjoying every second of the day.
As the afternoon drifted into evening, everyone made their way inside the villa’s stunning, light-filled reception room for dinner. The space glowed with soft natural light pouring through the tall windows, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere as guests took their seats. Heartfelt speeches followed, filled with stories, laughter, and a few happy tears, all celebrating Becky and Craig’s journey together. As the sun began to dip, the golden evening light streamed through the room, giving the whole celebration a magical glow and bringing a perfect close to a beautiful summer day.
The Italian Villa gives you that destination wedding feeling without leaving Dorset. The Mediterranean-inspired architecture, the world-class gardens, and the proximity to the coast create a combination that's truly unique. And because the venue and gardens are so visually rich, the styling can be as simple or elaborate as you like — the setting does the heavy lifting.
If you're planning a wedding at The Italian Villa and looking for a photographer who knows the venue and its gardens inside out, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch — I'd love to chat about your plans.
