KINGSTON MAURWARD WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Kingston Maurward is one of those venues that takes your breath away the moment you arrive. The long parkland drive through the Dorset countryside, the Georgian mansion appearing through the trees, and then the gardens opening up in front of you with those sweeping grass terraces leading down to the lake — it's the kind of setting that feels almost too beautiful to be real. I've photographed weddings here and it's genuinely one of my favourite Dorset venues to work at.
Kingston Maurward is an award-winning 18th century manor house set within 750 acres of stunning Dorset countryside, just outside the county town of Dorchester. It has this wonderful combination of grandeur and warmth — the house is elegant and full of period character, with five beautiful licensed rooms for ceremonies and receptions, but it never feels stiff or intimidating. The team are lovely, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it feels like hosting your wedding at a gorgeous country house that happens to be yours for the day.
The gardens are the real showstopper from a photography perspective. Those sweeping grass terraces cascade down to a sparkling lake, and the views across the rolling Dorset hills beyond are just stunning. There are also secret garden nooks, herbaceous borders, and beautifully curated plantings that give you endless variety for portraits. The light reflecting off the lake in the late afternoon is particularly magical — some of my favourite couple portraits have been taken right there, with the 18th century house reflected in the water and the Dorset countryside stretching out behind.
There are two outdoor ceremony locations in the gardens as well as the five indoor rooms, so you have real flexibility depending on the weather and the style you're going for. And the venue offers some brilliant extras for guests — row boats on the lake, giant garden games, and even an alpaca meet and greet, which always makes for some very entertaining photos.
Ruby and Henry’s wedding was a beautiful celebration of love, culture, and place, beginning with a heartfelt ceremony in a charming Dorset church. Surrounded by family and friends, they exchanged vows in an atmosphere that blended meaningful traditions and modern elegance, reflecting the cultural fusion that has always been part of their story. After the ceremony, everyone made their way to Kingston Maurward House, where the celebrations continued in one of Dorset’s most stunning settings. The reception was filled with gorgeous red and pink florals that brought warmth and vibrancy to the historic venue, perfectly complementing the joyful energy of the day. Guests spilled out into the incredible gardens for drinks, laughter, and photographs among the sweeping lawns and beautiful greenery. As the evening approached, the light softened into a dreamy amber glow, giving Ruby and Henry the most magical golden hour for their portraits. Bathed in warm, golden tones, they wandered through the gardens hand in hand, soaking in a quiet moment together before returning to the party. It was a day full of colour, emotion, and connection — a perfect reflection of two families and cultures coming together to celebrate Ruby and Henry’s new beginning.
Kingston Maurward is the kind of venue that rewards you the more time you spend there. Every corner of the gardens has something different to offer, and the light changes beautifully throughout the day. The combination of the elegant Georgian house, the stunning lake, and the rolling Dorset countryside creates a backdrop that's classic and timeless without ever feeling stuffy. The drive up to the front of the house is really quite something, and the driveway makes a lovely spot for photos.
