LULWORTH CASTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

I've lost count of how many weddings I've photographed at Lulworth Castle now, and honestly it never gets any less magical. Every single time I drive through the estate gates and see the castle appear across the parkland, I get that same feeling — this place is something truly special. It's one of those venues where the photos practically take themselves, and yet every wedding I shoot here feels completely different to the last.

Lulworth Castle is a stunning 17th century castle set in around 1,000 acres of rolling parkland on the Lulworth Estate in East Dorset. It was originally built as a hunting lodge to entertain royalty — and seven monarchs have visited over the centuries — so it's steeped in history. What makes it so unique as a wedding venue is what happened in 1929 when a devastating fire gutted the interior. Rather than rebuilding it to look shiny and new, the castle has been sensitively restored so the interior retains these incredible raw, textured walls of exposed chalk and stone. It sounds unusual, but the effect is absolutely breathtaking — it creates the most atmospheric, dramatic backdrop for a wedding reception that I've seen anywhere.

The castle is a true blank canvas. Those textured walls and the natural light that pours in through the windows mean you can dress it any way you like — minimal and understated, full of florals and candles, or anything in between. I've seen it styled a hundred different ways and it always looks incredible. It seats up to 130 for dinner and 150 for the evening, and the entire venue is exclusively yours for the day.

For your ceremony, Lulworth gives you three beautiful options. You can say your vows inside the castle itself, which is utterly romantic with the raw stone walls and natural light. There's also the Chapel of St Mary's, a gorgeous 18th century Catholic chapel just a short walk from the castle — it was the first free-standing Catholic chapel built in England since the Reformation, so it's a really special space with a wonderful history. And then there's St Andrew's Church, a beautiful 15th century parish church partly designed by a young Thomas Hardy. All three are within the estate grounds, which keeps the whole day feeling intimate and contained.

Rio + Henry's wedding at Lulworth Castle was a gorgeous day full of family, friends, laughter and music. Their summer wedding at Lulworth Castle unfolded in a breathtaking blend of history and natural beauty, with golden sunlight washing over the ancient stone walls and the rolling Dorset countryside beyond. The ceremony took place in the beautiful Chapel of St Mary's, which looked absolutely beautiful with soft florals along the aisle and candles flickering in the afternoon light. The chapel is right next to the castle, and after a confetti throw guests wandered through the elegant gardens and enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception in the Rose Garden. Dinner was in the main reception space at Lulworth in the right hand side of the castle, a space that always looks absolutely stunning no matter how it's styled. Dorset Fine Dining treated everyone to the most delicious meals (as always!) - a top choice for catering if you are considering who to choose. The castle interior was dressed with the most stunning floral installations — soft pastel arrangements by Clarity Flowers and candlelight everywhere. The speeches had everyone in tears and laughter, and by the time the music started the dance floor was packed. Henry's family are big music fans, and his Dad started off the party by doing a DJ set, followed by the Groom and his sister!

But here's the thing that really sets a Lulworth Castle wedding apart from anywhere else — the location. The estate sits just minutes from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, two of the most iconic and dramatic stretches of coastline in the entire country. I always build in time for couple portraits down at the coast, and the results are honestly some of my favourite images I've ever taken. There's something about the combination of a castle wedding and those epic Jurassic Coast cliffs that feels almost unreal — romantic and wild and cinematic all at once.

Even without leaving the estate grounds, you have incredible variety for photography. Sweeping parkland, ancient woodland, wildflower meadows, and beautiful views out towards the sea. The light across the estate in the late afternoon is particularly stunning — soft and golden and just perfect for portraits. Having photographed here so many times, I know exactly where to go and when throughout the day to catch the best light and the most beautiful backdrops.

Lulworth Castle is a venue I genuinely love returning to. Every wedding feels different — different seasons, different styling, different couples — but that same magical atmosphere is always there. The combination of the dramatic castle interior, the beautiful ceremony spaces, the sweeping Dorset countryside, and the Jurassic Coast on your doorstep makes it unlike any other wedding venue I know.
