BEST WEDDING VENUES IN SUSSEX FOR NATURAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Sussex is home to some of the most stunning wedding venues in the south of England. The South Downs, the rolling countryside, the mix of rustic barns and grand country estates — it's a county that has something for every kind of couple. I've been photographing weddings in Sussex for years now, and I've fallen in love with the landscape, the light, and the venues. It's only a short journey from my Hampshire base, and every time I cross the county border I'm reminded how beautiful it is.
Here are my favourite Sussex wedding venues — the ones I've photographed at and genuinely love — along with a few that are firmly on my wish list.
FINDON PLACE, FINDON
Findon Place is one of those venues that feels like a genuine secret. It's a beautiful Grade II* listed Georgian country house set in 53 acres of private grounds in the village of Findon, right at the foot of the South Downs. It's not a commercial wedding venue in the traditional sense — it's a private estate that opens its doors for a limited number of weddings each year, which gives it an incredibly exclusive, personal feel.
The house itself is full of period charm — elegant rooms, high ceilings, and wonderful natural light. But it's the grounds that really set it apart. There's a swimming pool (yes, an actual swimming pool for your guests), a croquet lawn, stunning views up to Cissbury Ring on the Downs, and acres of private parkland that feels completely untouched. When you hire Findon Place, the entire estate is yours for the weekend, which means the day unfolds at your own pace with no rush and no restrictions.
For photography, Findon Place is a gift. The combination of the elegant interiors, the sprawling grounds, and those incredible South Downs views means you have endless options for portraits. And because it's exclusive use with no tight turnarounds, we have all the time in the world to explore the grounds and find those perfect spots. The light across the Downs at sunset is particularly stunning from here.

GOODWOOD, CHICHESTER
Goodwood is a name most people know from the racing and the Festival of Speed, but the estate is also home to some truly spectacular wedding spaces. Set across 12,000 acres of the West Sussex countryside, the scale of the place is breathtaking — and the venues within the estate range from the grand to the intimate.
The Ballroom at Goodwood House is one of the most impressive ceremony spaces I've worked in — high ceilings, period features, and a real sense of occasion. But it's the Kennels and the Hound Lodge that I find really special. The Kennels is a beautifully converted space with a wonderful mix of historic architecture and contemporary style, while the Hound Lodge offers a more intimate, private experience for smaller weddings.
What I love about shooting at Goodwood is the sheer variety of backdrops available. You've got the grand house, the surrounding parkland, woodland paths, open fields with views across the Downs — you could photograph ten weddings here and never repeat a location. The light across the estate in the late afternoon is absolutely magical.

FARBRIDGE, CHICHESTER
Farbridge is a venue that holds a really special place in my heart — I've photographed two weddings here and I'd happily go back every weekend. It's a beautifully designed barn venue near Chichester in West Sussex, right on the edge of the South Downs National Park, and it's won more awards than I can count.
What makes Farbridge special is how thoughtfully it's been designed. Every detail has been considered — from the stunning Meadow Barn where ceremonies take place, to the main barn for receptions, to the seven en-suite bedrooms that mean you and your closest people can stay on site. They have their own team of in-house chefs, so the food is always incredible, and the staff genuinely care about making your day perfect.
From a photography perspective, the combination of the beautiful barn interiors, the South Downs countryside, and the lovely gardens gives you so much variety. The light in the Meadow Barn is gorgeous for ceremonies, and the surrounding fields and rolling hills are perfect for relaxed couple portraits at golden hour. It's a venue that works beautifully in every season — cosy and candlelit in winter, bright and open in summer.

UPWALTHAM BARNS, NEAR CHICHESTER
Upwaltham Barns is one of the prettiest barn venues in the south of England, and I can absolutely see why it's one of the most popular wedding venues in West Sussex. These traditional Sussex flint long barns are set right in the heart of the South Downs National Park, next to the Goodwood Estate, and the setting is just beautiful — rolling hills, sprawling fields, and the most gorgeous countryside views in every direction.
What makes Upwaltham special is that it's family-owned and you can feel it. There's a warmth and friendliness here that you don't always get at bigger commercial venues. The whole place is exclusively yours on the day, and it genuinely feels like your own private countryside retreat. The barns are built around a charming central courtyard with flower-filled beds and a beautiful Moroccan-style snug — a cosy little seating area with cushions and throws that guests absolutely love.
The East Barn is where you say your vows, and it's stunning — floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, with breathtaking views of the South Downs rolling away behind. As a photographer, that light is a gift. The South Barn is your reception space — rustic wooden beams, flint stone walls, wrought-iron chandeliers, and twinkling fairy lights that create the most magical atmosphere come evening. And then there's Jasmine Cottage — the most gorgeous little bridal suite with shabby-chic decor, a roll-top bath, and a balcony where you can secretly watch your guests arriving. The getting-ready shots in Jasmine Cottage are always some of my favourites.
The South Downs countryside around the barns is incredible for portraits — especially the hill above the venue at sunset. It's one of those locations where the landscape does all the work and you just need to be there at the right time.

OTHER SUSSEX VENUES I LOVE
Sussex has so many incredible venues that I haven't had the chance to photograph at yet. A few that are firmly on my list:
Cissbury Barns, Findon — set high on the South Downs with the most incredible views, these beautifully restored barns have a really stylish, contemporary feel. The outdoor spaces and countryside backdrop would be amazing for photography.
Cowdray Estate, Midhurst — a grand estate with a stunning walled garden and the incredible Buck Hall with its vaulted ceiling. The mix of formal gardens and wild Sussex countryside would make for gorgeous, varied photography.
Buxted Park, Uckfield — a stunning Palladian country house in East Sussex with sweeping grounds. The Orangery is flooded with light and the estate has a quiet, timeless elegance that I think would photograph beautifully.
Firle Place, Lewes — a beautiful country estate in the South Downs with the Georgian Riding School, a gorgeous ceremony space with oak beam ceilings and room for up to 250 guests. The croquet lawns by the lake would be perfect for drinks receptions and portraits.
